iHeartPodcasts To Launch Macro’s First Ever Podcast Titled ‘Shattering The System’

Shattering The System investigates a variety of crimes and the systems and structures that make them possible. Hosted by pioneering audio journalist Sonari Glinton, the series looks into the true crimes of our day to tell the stories and dig into the issues that affect us all.

Sonari Glinton has covered everything from corruption at Cook County’s Juvenile Jail to the ascent of Barack Obama to breaking the Volkswagen diesel scandal. He’s produced segments for This American Life, directed NPR’s All Things Considered, reported for NPR’s business and politics desks and guest hosted the ground-breaking podcast Planet Money and Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

In 2004, he co-created The Rundown, one of the first and longest-running daily news podcasts. Whether he’s organizing his colleagues in public media, working with youth journalists from YR Media, or co-creating virtual camp for teens, Sonari has shown his commitment to fostering the next generation of journalists and creating more diverse and inclusive newsrooms. Currently, he sits on the national board of Mikva Challenge, which funds and supports civic education and participation for teens.

Drawing from his decades covering politics and the economy, Sonari and his team expose systems that make it possible for criminals of all kinds to get away with the unthinkable. Using expert interviews, victim testimonials, evidence and the innovative use of sound, Sonari unveils the ugly truths, injustices and loopholes within society.

This season tells what happens in West Hollywood when the party’s over and what doesn’t happen, when gay black men turn up dead in the same apartment.  This 10 episode podcast delves into the strange, twisted world of Ed Buck. It’s a story that has implications far beyond Hollywood or the gay world.  Shattering The System is doing something different, and telling stories from a fresh perspective while taking a hard look at what happens when the system isn’t just broken, but shattered.

Macro’s Charles D. King, serves as executive producer alongside Aisha Corpas Wynn, Sonari Glinton, Roy Orecchio and Jonathan Unger; and Lindsay Hoffman for iHeartPodcasts. iHeartPodcasts and Macro serve as co-producers.

Jason June’s Children’s Book ‘Never Forget Eleanor’ To Be Adapted For Film – Deadline

'Never Forget Eleanor,' Jason June=

EXCLUSIVE: The children’s book Never Forget Eleanor from New York Times best-selling author Jason June will be adapted for film by Unger Media.

The animated film of the same name will expand on the story from the popular book which shines a light on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, told through the eyes of a child named Elijah.

“I instantly bonded with the Unger Media team over their passion for the connective power of stories. I know they are the perfect partner to bring my books to new audiences,” Jason June shared in a statement.

This is the latest project from the author and Unger Media who are already in development on the film adaptation of his YA HarperTeen novel Jay’s Gay Agenda. CEO & Founder of Unger Media, Jonathan Unger, will also serve as EP.

“The moment we read Jay’s Gay Agenda, we jumped at the chance to collaborate with Jason June! Jason June’s inclusive, yet positive style of storytelling aligns with our ethos of content with a purpose, and Never Forget Eleanor personifies that in this beautiful story,” said Unger. “We know families across the globe will fall in love with Elijah and his loving grandma Eleanor, seeing themselves in this sweet story,” he added.

Jason June is a New York Times best-selling author who writes queer novels including the YA rom-com, Jay’s Gay Agenda, and the New York Times best-seller, Out Of The Blue. Last month heralded the release of Never Forget Eleanor, a tender picture book about Alzheimer’s.

Up next for 2023 is the release of Riley Weaver Needs a Date to the Gaybutante Ball, a YA contemporary about how gender and sexuality labels can both limit and liberate us, and The Spells We Cast, a YA rivals-to-lovers fantasy about an elf-descended gay cowboy and the curmudgeonly sprite descendant he falls for. He is repped by Triada US.

Unger Media focuses on global content with a purpose, bridging imagination with impact in every story they tell. CEO and founder Unger believes in the power of storytelling and how it can not only connect us but also change the way we view the world. What matters most is not only entertaining audiences and making them think, but ultimately making people feel seen.

Jerry Torre Memoir ‘The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens’ To Be Adapted For Film By Unger Media

EXCLUSIVE: A film adaptation of the Jerry Torre memoir The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens is in the works by Unger Media. Torre’s story was detailed in the book co-authored by him and Tony Maietta released in 2018.

Torre was nicknamed “The Marble Faun” by Edith Ewing Bouvier Beale and her daughter Edith Bouvier Beale, better known as Big Edie and Little Edie and the aunt and cousin, respectively, of former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. As a teen, Torre appeared in their 1975 documentary, Grey Gardens.

The forthcoming film, also titled The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens, will tell the story of a gay teenage runaway from Brooklyn framing Big Edie and Little Edie as the misguided guardian angels in his life—and beyond.

Leo Geter (Longmire) is penning the script and will also produce; Maietta, Drew Droege and Unger Media CEO Jonathan Unger will executive produce. Torre is also involved creatively.

“As fate had intervened so many years in my past, it once again presented itself,” Torre said in an exclusive statement to Deadline. “First, meeting Tony and writing our book, The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens together, then being introduced to Jonathan, Drew, and Leo, and our shared quest to produce a film based on it. I am honored to work with these fine gentlemen, the professionals whose fate has once again joined all of us. As Edith Beale said herself, ‘In your life, many people would find your friendship interesting.'”

“It’s very rare that characters like Big and Little Edie, who are so fixed in our minds, can be reborn and humanized, but Jerry’s story does that and so much more. I’m excited to bring this project to life. Getting to know Jerry and hearing about all his amazing adventures has been a pure joy,” Geter said.

A documentary of the same name released in 2011 is not connected to Unger Media’s new film. Casting is currently underway for the role of Torre.

“I’m a longtime Grey Gardens fan, and Jerry is deeply inspiring to me as an artist and a queer person. I’m really honored and excited to be a part of sharing this important and wildly fun retelling,” Droege added.
